ask & you shall receive

i know, i know...i talked all about the farmer's market last week & then i didn't even give you a tiny update this week!

as promised, some photos from the set up.

it was a lot of fun & such a great learning experience. traffic was a bit slow but there were always several people in our tent or outside our tent taking a peek. i'd say i sold a couple of almost everything. a couple of clips, a few pairs of earrings, a couple refurbished vintage tees, a few owls, a few headbands, etc.
hopefully when more produce is available, more people will come with spending money ;)

 (other view)

i shared a booth with michelle, who has become such a great friend of mine....a mentor figure in life & in market/craft shows haha. she makes AWESOME jewelry that you can check out here

we will be set up two days this weekend in lake if you're in the area, stop by and check us out!

ps i would just like to state that this morning my husband woke up early to go for a hike. he climbed 12000+ feet before i even got out of bed. yikes. i need coffee.

making progress & miscellany

so i finally cut the pieces out for my quilt. making progress slowly, but surely. it's a start, right?

chase caught this fishy last week & we ate it for dinner. yum.

took this photo of a columbine at the cabin in almont.

and i made a tunic last night that i'm super proud of. i rarely make things for myself that i LOVE. i even wore it to the grocery store last night to get oreos haha..until i shower and get a picture of it on me, here's a teaser.

it's made from anna maria horner's solid voile. so soft!
((an aggie can wear burnt orange if she wants to.))

speaking of anna maria horner, my sweet memaw sent me an article about her in the mail. it pretty much made my day when i opened it today!

happy tuesday.

wholly yours...sometimes?

my heart has been processing this whole post for a while. I'm not sure that I have still even fully processed it...but my heart is being changed and challenged. You get to read about it.

Lucky you. (THICK sarcasm)

(all song lyrics are in mustard)

so this song has been one of my favorites for many years. if i have my journal and this song comes on my ipod...i feel like i write the whole thing down haha. it's just one of those songs that never gets old in my book. my favorite part, hands down has been at the bridge, when Crowder sings

"so here I am, all of me. finally...EVERYTHING.

i love that so much i have it painted on a canvas in our living room. now, can i sing that or pray that daily? negative. is that my heart on most days? no. absolutely not. i wish. YET...

from the broken earth,  flowers come up... pushing through the dirt.

in the midst of our selfishness & pride, the Lord insists on working through us. ummm what? why?

i'll never get it.

but i'll always be thankful. thankful that He works through more than just Matt Chandler, Kari Jobe, Mark Driscoll, Shane & Shane, Robbie Seay, Jeff Johnson (Jeff...not Jack), David Crowder, and Bethany Dillon. He persists to work through a WRECK like me...even when I have days that I want to take credit and praise for my work. He brings good through this...even when I fail him.

example: Love146. He humbles me every month when I want to buy something from J. Crew or Anthropologie. Instead, I send that little chunk of profit to Love146.

Because I'm holy? Because I'm a good person? ha. NO. Because He has laid that on my heart and I can never take credit for the good He's doing there.

the harder i try the more clearly can i feel the depth of our fall and the weight of it all.

He can do so much with that $25-$50 each month...girls get RESCUED from slavery. CHILDREN get saved from sex trafficking. and I want to spend it on a cardigan? sheesh. I told you my heart was messed up.

God blesses us with a gift. singing, athleticism, craftiness, being eloquent, whatever. and we take credit for it. (so stupid) but, isn't that just like us? stained with dirt.  prone to depravity. selfish. prideful. sinful.
BUT I rest in the fact that...

your grandness in me is making me clean.

that's what our relationship with the Lord is supposed to look like, yet we say "look at me" "look what i did" "look how cool i am"

are our hearts allowing Him to be known and make us clean? are we seeking to purify our lives & our actions?

if the rest of this post has been garbage to you, PLEASE read this

i want you to know my heart and i want you to call me out when you feel like my heart has been taken over by a need for recognition, a desire to be heard, desperate for attention. when i show you something i make, know that i don't want bragging rights or endless praise in comment form. sure, i'd love to get feedback, that's one of the reasons i made this blog in the first place. however, i want you to see that the Lord has gifted me and that I'm desiring, now more than ever, that all praise returns to the source.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. matthew 5:16

thanks for letting me process this on here & actually reading it. search your heart. be encouraged. feel loved. do something bigger than yourself.

SIY (sew it yourself) Drawstring Toiletries Bag

*** ((headband giveaway HERE & another giveaway/interview/feature HERE!)) ***

this is an item my mom requested that i make for her, so i snapped some photos along the way so i could share with you how i did it! i winged it, but i'm pleased with the results.

*note/question: anyone know if there is a better needle to use for oilcloth or laminated cotton? at points i felt like it was a disaster with my regular needle*

what you'll need:
half a yard of laminated cotton or oil cloth (depends on how wide the bolt is)
matching thread
coordinating fabric for the drawstring
scissors or rotary cutter
an 8" bowl or whatever size you prefer.
optional (i opted for no): lining vinyl.

(( p.s. don't you hate it when you get home & your fabric is cut all wonky? ))

step 1: trace & cut out your 8" circle for the base

step 2: cut out your rectangle for the "body" of the bag

i cut mine to be the comparable to my vera bradley bag

-i made mine 26" long and 15.5" high. ready for some old school calculus? (i don't remember if its actually calculus where i learned this, but i do know mrs. carey taught it to me haha thanks val!)
if you are using a different size bowl, measure it, and use this formula:

Circumference = Pi (3.141 592 653 589 793...) * Diameter (length across)

ok, moving on

step 3make tiny tiny tiny slits on the bottom of one of the long sides of your rectangle.

step 4: cut out your drawstring. mine was 2" by 29"

(( at this point, you should have these pieces ))

step 5: head on over to the iron, fold the edges in, press.
and then fold it in half again, press.

step 6: sew a stitch down the side

step 7: ok, still at the sewing machine, take your base & your body pieces. take the edge that you snipped and (right sides facing) pin them together. ( i don't pin. *gasp*)

stitch around the edge, going slowly to make sure the edges are lined up. the snips will help you curve the rectangle around the circle with somewhat clean seams.

you will have a teepee at this point.

step 8: snip any major excess and then sew up the edges of the rectangle to close the bag.

(( i also reinforced the seam here.))

go back to where the rectangle meets the base and close up any holes.

step 9:  turn your bag right side out (can you see it coming together!?) and fold down the top 2" towards the inside.
hem/stitch it, and then sew again about 3/4" above that.

step 10: i cut a square (don't judge me) in the front and put my drawstring through the casing

make a knot with the ends of the drawstring and fill it up with shampoo & hairspray!

boom! you're done. :)
