sangria recipe

Thanks to everyone who has loved this recipe as much as I do! It's been pinned over 18,000 times! Craziness. Enjoy and Cheers!

After I tweeted about making sangria yesterday, I had countless requests to post a recipe. Ask & you shall receive, friends! This is a recipe we received from a family-friend when we got married. I tweaked it a tiny bit & it's delicious!

What you'll need:
1 bottle red wine*, chilled
lemon juice
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar ((or less..to taste))
1/2 lemon, sliced
1/2 lime, sliced
1 small orange, sliced
1/2 cup strawberries, cut in half
10 oz. club soda ((I buy regular, I've used lime flavored  before & it was great))

Directions:
Pour bottle, or three cups, of wine into large pitcher. Stir in sugar, orange juice, and a few squirts of lemon juice.

Take sliced lemon, lime, & orange and put into pitcher. Stir.

Let chill in refrigerator for several hours, or overnight.

Just before serving, add strawberries & club soda.

Pour into a cute container**, serve*** & enjoy.

love.

*since you're adding sugar, juice, etc to it...there's no shame in buying cheap wine...there's just no such thing here in Boulder.
*have fun with the fruit you add. i added apple to my last batch and loved it.
*dispenser is from target
*Chalkboard carafe is from Pier1
*It's great by itself in a wine glass, but if it's also yummy & cute served over ice in a tumbler, garnished with an orange slice.

  4. OH MY YUM!!!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!!! I have been wanting to make some for awhile now. Sangria is my favorite! There is a great winery in St Augustine, FL that makes THE best sangria with their wines! And they are inexpensive and can be bought at stores! You should order a bottle! 16. Yum. Can hardly wait for summer. And this is reason enough to keep a carboy pumping out cheap reds all year long.

  21. I've never had sangria before but it sounds really tasty! This might be a silly question but do you add whole strawberries or a purée?

    1. not a dumb question at all. i use halved strawberries, but a puree would work just fine i'm sure! :)

  24. Have you ever tried adding Brandy? Somewhere I read it's part of traditional Spanish Sangria. I've had it a few times & really makes it a bit more fuller bodied...of course also more calories, speaking of bodies ;-) !
