There is a difference between being taught and learning, is there not? For instance, God has been teaching me things for a long time, but I keep falling short and realizing I'm not learning those things He has been teaching me.

However, since taking a vacay from my shop, I've finally started to listen...and with that came learning.

((in list form, of course, here is a little bit of what the Lord has been teaching me lately))

No matter how screwed up I am or how far I try to run from God and His perfect will ((yes, it's as stupid as it sounds, running from His perfect will)), He will still make me flourish and grow from the broken earth that I'm planted in.  As Gungor sings in one of their songs, "He makes beautiful things, He makes beautiful things out of dust. He makes beautiful things, He makes beautiful things out of us."

I need to be praying BIG things for my marriage because I serve a BIG God who can accomplish them.

Don't be afraid to pray specific REALLY specific. He may just answer them immediately. ((more on this one soon.))

Missions can and IS being done on a local level. You don't have to go across the world to make disciples. The gospel will go forth wherever the Lord calls you, even if that's right there in the city and/or state you're currently residing.  It took us a while to figure that one out ;)

There is freedom in surrender.

Not asking for help is like telling God, "You aren't big enough for what's going on, don't worry Big G, I got this."
((and um, that's dumb))

He makes all things new.

He gives and takes away.

Just because something is going really well, doesn't mean He won't close the door...or ask YOU to close it.

and because this verse is always an encouragement and a peace giver to my anxious heart:
Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.
((luke 12:32))

what have you been learning lately?

  1. I've been learning that I can't fix anything, only God can, and that requires more patience than I usually have! Love you friend

  2. what a great post!! God bless you!

  3. ahhh! i love this insight, my friend! i'm learning that there is deep and profound freedom in the fear of God and not man :)

  4. Oh, I love this Kim! We sure do serve a big, wonderful God!

  5. good stuff!!! thanks for the encouragement, friend. love ya!

  6. What a beautiful post! I've been learning that He is a gracious Father and will perfectly provide for His children.

  7. I enjoy your post so much! The verse, Luke 12:32 is my name inspiration for my business, "little flock". I love how the verse is passed tens. He has BEEN pleasED to give you the kingdom! He has already given it to us! as we set aside our fears and trust that he wants and has given all His kingdom to us, we are blessed in our simple faith. Praise Him! And thank you for such an encouraging post. :)

  8. good writing and insight. . thanks so much for sharing. . I am still learning to take one day at a time, don't make absolute plans (God can change them at any time), and Man's rejection is God's protection. . .miss you guys.

  9. I love that you shared the part about local missions... this is so important! Sometimes we live each day wondering where God will send us when He desires for us to be ministering to the people right where we are.
Lately I've been learning that God is in the present moments. I spend so much time reacting to the past and planning for the future that I miss out on His presence and the joy found in communion with Him right now. Fully living. I guess He's teaching me that though, I haven't learned it yet! One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp has been a great reminder to live in eucharisteo-grace, thankfulness, and joy.

  10. my hubby sang that gungor song at church recently. so good! thank you for sharing kim. it is a reminder that i need to start listening.. because i have to admit that i have not been lately. which means i am really missing out.

  11. wow. i love this post; thanks for writing it, friend!:)

  12. So true! Very encouraging post thanks! (:

  13. What an awesome post!
I am glad I'm not alone in running from God's will. Why are we so silly when we KNOW that God always knows best?

  14. This is such a fantastic post. I'm definitely going through a learning and trusting God more season. I've had to really look towards Him lately. It can be tough (when you just want to control things) but it's helping me to stop resisting Him.

  15. i've been learning/struggling with being affirmed by God and NOT people. it's hard. tough stuff, ya know? i love your blog. thanks for posting something so honest. :-)

  16. I've been learning that I don't come to Him enough. As if he doesn't care about the little things (and yeah that is dumb). I've learned that trying to force myself into a situation because I think it's the right thing to do doesn't mean that is where God wants me. I need to wait on His leading. I've also learned that if I want one of your turban headbands I need to be quick! Ok, that last one was just to give you a giggle ;)

comments are fun. leave one if it's nice.
