more paper bag skirt action

So remember the paper bag skirt I made? Well I had been wanting a more "neutral" one that wasn't so vibrant & both, my friends ((Michelle & Crystal)) and Chase, told me that they almost bought me this skirt at urban outfitters for my birthday. I went to check this skirt out on Monday and after I spent some birthday money ((yay!)), I headed on over to Joann to get some lightweight mock-denim. 

At about 12:30 am Monday night I got the urge to make the skirt. 

So she has way longer legs than I do & mine actually looks a lot less cornflower blue than it photographed there. I used the wrong side of the denim so that it was more grey than dark blue. I put some pockets in that sucker & we're good to go!

1. I thought I smiled for this & 2. I need to stop taking photos so soon after I wake up. Yikes.

Maybe I should have posted this yesterday for a WIWW? Ooooops.

24 random facts for my 24th birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!


I've seen a few blog friends do this lately & thought I'd join the party! Today is my 24th birthday and I thought I'd come up with 24 random facts about me for your reading pleasure ;) Readyyyyy? Go!

1. I paint my nails ((at least)) twice a week.

2.  I have two older brothers, I'm the baby girl!

3. I cringe when people use the phrase "you deserve it." No need to step onto my soap box to tell you why. 

4. I'm an employee of Anthropologie. ((BIG smile))

5. I'm super competitive. 

 6. I've worked my butt off and am SO thankful for Oh, Sweet Joy and the success God has blessed me with in the past 3 months.

7. Besides Chase, my best friend in the world is my cousin, Jarratt. Here we are in a school play in Elementary School being George & Martha Washington haha!!

and this is us in January...my how time flies ;) 

8. I suck at using patterns & I'm convinced that my brain just doesn't work that way. If I make something for myself, I make it up as I go...dresses, handbags, skirts, tops, etc.

 9. Chase and I LOVE concerts and are going to see Iron & Wine for the first time this summer, as well as Ray Lamontagne for the second time. Be still my heart.

 10. Although I thoroughly enjoy Ray, Iron & Wine, the Decemberists, Mumford & Sons, the Avett brothers, etc...I would choose to listen to oldies over anything. ANYTHING. 

11. I wear 4 rings at all times. My wedding ring & engagement ring, my Aggie ring ((whoop!)), and a James Avery Ring that reminds me of New Zealand :)

 12. Speaking of New Zealand, I LOVE to travel -- I've been to Africa, Paris, New Zealand, the Maldives, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and ONE day I would like Chase to take me to Iceland. Yes. Iceland.

13. I used to have a nose ring and would like to get it re-pierced. See above photo ;)

14. I rarely go a day without drinking a Dr. Pepper. But no Diet Dr. Pepper, please. Sick.

15. My maiden name is Huddleston.

16. I would LOVE to sing back up vocals//harmonies for Bethany Dillon...just ONCE!  I met her at a concert when Chase & I first got married. B-Dill...want to be best friends? 

17.  I have *almost* decided that I'm going to train for/compete in a triathlon. I've been running & biking long distances the past two weeks, but I'm REALLY hesitant about the swimming 1/4-1/2 mile in open water thing. Yikes. 

18.  I don't like the color pink. 

19. I usually don't wear makeup except for mascara. 

20. I don't like or drink beer. 

21. I could eat candy ALL day. 

22. I'm really impatient. 

23. When Chase & I first got married, I made breakfast ((bacon, eggs & toast)) for him almost every morning and then fell asleep on the couch until class. We had a LOT of bacon that semester. 

24. I have lopsided dimples. One under my left eye & one on the right side in the "normal" dimple spot.

favorite things friday: random

I have LOTS of random favorites today... so there isn't much of a theme, but LOTS of fun :) Enjoy!

1.  Cyclemeter - It's my new favorite iphone app. It tracks me with a gps while I run or bike and logs my times, mileage, calories burned, and logs my mileage for the week. It's the little things ...I'm a bit competitive, and this makes me work harder because I always have to run further or bike longer. What, you don't play those games with yourself??

2.  This fabric from bloomerie on etsy. It's by Kate Spain and is so pretty & spring-y!

3. This look from Anthropologie. My favorite outfits are dark skinny jeans with white blouses, tunics, tanks or tees paired with a pop of color. I'd put a turquoise or yellow tank underneath. GORGEOUS!

4.   The Trio Rosette Headband from Oh, Sweet Joy! Seriously, this headband never gets old in whichever color I choose. I usually choose the mustard one, but I'm about to make a few for myself in the new colors, also photographed below, that will be available April 1st.

5.  This verse:

Such an encouragement that our King is FOR us and wants the best for us. It is His good pleasure. 

6. This instagram photo. I took it last weekend & posted it, but I look at it every day. It makes me so happy & LOVE Boulder, even more.

8. BIRTHDAY WEEKENDS! My actual birthday is Monday, but my clothes buying hiatus ends today ((after THREE months!)), so I'm celebrating ALL weekend! Not to mention, Chase has class all day Monday, so I get extra days to celebrate, right?? Right. ((I SO wish there was a Sprinkles in Denver!))

Whether we like it or not, swimsuit season is poking its stupid self around the corner. Chase & I have a trip to Florida at the end of May and so I've been looking at swimsuits lately :) These are my top picks ((although I really love every single one that J.Crew has this season)).

5 years ago...

5 years ago, today, Joshua Chase Davis...

You asked me out on a date. I was giddy. Ask Chelsea. We went to Johnny Carino's and I stuffed my face with the bowtie festival. I was already smitten. I had no idea what you were thinking. You looked mighty handsome in your vintage La Tigre polo. 

This photo was as close as I could get to that time. It still makes me laugh...reenacting our childhood teeball "buddy pics." 

Here's to the weekend that "young love" surprised us & it was all history from there ;)

Fast forward five years and we've had some crazy adventures, but I'm still smitten...and I'm so glad you asked me to dinner :) I love that we can drive to Carino's tonight & celebrate "anniversaries" like these. Celebrate every milestone. Celebrate the Love that God blessed us with. Celebrate every step of this adventure.

I remember talking about celebrating our 6 month "anniversary" of being married while we were in the air on our way to Malaysia and someone made fun of us for being excited about that "milestone."  Personally, I think it's awesome that we celebrate little things like this. 

Here's to celebrating.
