Still haven't gotten it together. I'll still give you a snapshot this week though ;)

In college ((Texas A&M University -- WHOOP!)), I was in Phi Lamb...and this is my big sis, Amber. She's a baller. 

We rocked our old cheerleading uniforms for the High School Heroes Date Party. It cracks me up every time I see it that we posed like this...and that I brought my cheer stuff with me to college. Ummmm.

DIY: pennant plate tutorial from burlap+blue

Hello, Yellow Songbird readers!
My name is Linda from burlap+blue, and I am honored to be guest posting here today sharing one of my favorite new creations...

I LOVE creating these pennant plates....they are fun, easy to make, and would fit in a million different places in my home.

Materials:
ceramic pen
white plate
paper or fabric for bunting
mod podge
acrylic sealer (optional)

Step 1: Gather your supplies. I used scrapbook paper for my bunting, and just cut my triangles out free-form. Feel free to use a pattern, if you'd like!

Step 2: Using a ceramic pen, hand write the word or phrase you'd like in the center of your plate. A note about ceramic pens-I was so intimidated by them at first, but they really are easy to use! I bought pens in a couple of different widths (Michaels has the best selection), and if you make a mistake you can wipe it off (immediately) with a damp paper towel.

Step 3: Using your Mod Podge and a sponge brush, adhere your triangles to your plate in a banner shape. Even though I was not planning on using this plate for anything other than decorative use, I then went over my triangles with a paint brush dipped in acrylic sealer. A top coat of Mod Podge would probably work just as well, though.

And there you have it!

favorite things friday ((and some housekeeping))

There isn't much of a theme here today...except for simply things that are making me happy//keeping me sane this week.

1. Friday Night Lights - Addicted? Yep. I held out for so long...but here we are on season two. Don't tell Chase, but I might have a crush on Matt Saracen ((Yes I just linked to a fictional character on wikipedia)). I won't tell you who Ari has a crush on. I don't have her permission ;) Thank you, netflix, for unlimited night time entertainment when my brain won't stop reeling. 

2. Pretty blue shirt dress from anthro. I got it for a killer price yesterday. Pair it with cowboy boots? Um....YES!

3. I've worn this necklace ((with a mustard butterfly)) ALL week. It's so spring-y and cute! I want to do a look-book soon with how to style some of my products. Someone want to give me some of their time? ha.

Favorite Things Friday: Around the House

I haven't really been on the computer much this week, which honestly has been awesome. I feel so much more "human" when I am around people all day rather than hanging out on twitter or stalking Etsy. Getting out of the house for my new job at Anthro this week has been so good for my sanity!

However, being around pretty things all week has brought out some materialism that needs to be subsided. The last thing I needed was to search for MORE things that I want. That said, I wanted this week's favorite things Friday to be things around the house that are making me happy. 

1. My ranunculus plant. I've got this yellow pretty that has bloomed and another white one with some pink on the ends. I'm ready for the others to bloom!

2. Here's another sneak peak of our bedroom ((mini)) makeover. We bought some new initial letters to match our new bedding. FUN!

3. Handmade paper circle garland. It's so simple & pretty against the boring white walls in my studio. I bought some pre-made circle punches from a seller on etsy & sewed them all together. Simple & colorful. Boom.

4. My love for Blue Capri Volcano candles is no secret. Now they're in PRETTY jars rather than the bright blue containers. I'm obsessed.

redecorating some spaces

We got this bedding on sale today at Anthropologie, along with some new accessories & decor for our bedroom. Our old decorative pillows are being reworked throughout the house. Hooray for redecorating! 

I needed some "newness" for Spring...and this is perfect! Now if only we could find the bedskirt to go with it.  Photos soon to come when it's all finished & put together. :)

He leads me beside still waters..

I have a really hard time taking time for myself. I tend to overwork myself, commit to too many things, and find myself burned out all.the.time. It's either: I'm a people pleaser and burn myself out...or people get frustrated with me that I'm busy. I'm sure there's a balance in there somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. 

When I had this realization yesterday morning, I decided to take some time for myself & go for a run. I got to the pond in the park that I run through ((in record time, I might add)) and literally gasped & stopped running. I took this photo and tweeted "I love when God's creation literally stops me in my tracks."

The funny thing is when I crossed to the other side, the reflection was even more stunning, as the flat irons  with clear blue skies behind them were reflecting on a perfectly still pond. I decided to keep running rather than stop to take another photo, because I felt like it was a little gift from my Heavenly Father that I needed to keep to myself. That reflection will forever be etched in my mind. It was the first time I've felt calm in weeks. 

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
