This little whippy cake ((tardy)) was quite difficult to make an outfit around. I love my neutrals and glitz is NOT my thing. However, this outfit was pretty darn cute, if you ask me! A little branching out is good for me, I suppose.

currently: scenes from my studio

I've been spending a lotttttt of time in my studio lately getting a few dresses done for the upcoming dress line. I'll explain it more in full later, but I'll have 7 dresses in a variety of sizes up for grabs and then will do mix & match custom ones...where you can essentially say, I want this design, but this color. Boom. Fun. 

Anywho, back to the task at hand. I took a camera in the studio this morning and took photos of some pretty things that have been making me happy in there these past few long, productive, fabric-filled days. 

I love this little "thread bird bath" I made a couple of years ago from a pretty vintage bowl and some cute birds. I used to only keep blue hues of thread in there, but I've branched out ;)

Loving this apron, but more than that..in *LOVE* with this transistor radio fabric. Doesn't this make you want to strap on some pearls, June Cleaver style, and make a pie?

Hmm? What's that you see? Dress hems?! YES! ((except for the polka dotted one, that's my ironing board cover))

turbands turbands turbands!

The entire time that I was taking time off from my shop I had countless tweets and emails asking for  turban headbands...or turbands...if you will.

I had coincidentally acquired some fun colors of knit, so I made some & I listed them here, so have at it!

((there's also a new style that is more of a headband if there's no way in heck you're going to wear it across your forehead)) 

Because there were requests for more photos of people actually wearing turbands, here's mah frannnnd, ilene, and i rocking our turban headbands:

learning

There is a difference between being taught and learning, is there not? For instance, God has been teaching me things for a long time, but I keep falling short and realizing I'm not learning those things He has been teaching me. 

However, since taking a vacay from my shop, I've finally started to listen...and with that came learning. 

((in list form, of course, here is a little bit of what the Lord has been teaching me lately))

No matter how screwed up I am or how far I try to run from God and His perfect will ((yes, it's as stupid as it sounds, running from His perfect will)), He will still make me flourish and grow from the broken earth that I'm planted in.  As Gungor sings in one of their songs, "He makes beautiful things, He makes beautiful things out of dust. He makes beautiful things, He makes beautiful things out of us."

I need to be praying BIG things for my marriage because I serve a BIG God who can accomplish them. 

Don't be afraid to pray specific things...like REALLY specific. He may just answer them immediately. ((more on this one soon.))

Missions can and IS being done on a local level. You don't have to go across the world to make disciples. The gospel will go forth wherever the Lord calls you, even if that's right there in the city and/or state you're currently residing.  It took us a while to figure that one out ;)

There is freedom in surrender.

Not asking for help is like telling God, "You aren't big enough for what's going on, don't worry Big G, I got this." 

((and um, that's dumb))

He makes all things new. 

He gives and takes away.

Just because something is going really well, doesn't mean He won't close the door...or ask YOU to close it. 

and because this verse is always an encouragement and a peace giver to my anxious heart:

Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

favorite things friday: minty

It's no secret that I *love* robin's egg blue, but recently I've been even more attracted to his brother, mint green.  Here are a few items that are calling my name. 

1. Pretty chair...would be a fun project if you don't want to fork over the cash to pay for shipping. 

2. "happy happy" print from farouche on etsy.

3. This "verdant slip" Anthropologie dress sold out too fast for me to get one at our store...it was also way to expensive for me to purchase anyways. It's so pretty, though!

4. I tweeted about these moccasins from Boden earlier this week. I just love them!

summer of pies: strawberry lemonade icebox pie

((I will humbly state that I think mine looks better, Martha))

what??? I thought that's what bloggers were supposed to do...have mental battles with Martha Stewart. no? oye.

Focus, Kim.

Oh, hi! My best friend Kelley sent me a text a little over a month ago telling me I needed to get the new Martha Stewart Living because there were some yummy pie recipes in there. That's all it takes for me to speed calmly head to Target to pick up an issue of Martha Stewart Living. She mentioned this Strawberry Lemonade Pie and I immediately wanted to try it. So try it, I did.

 

The recipe can be found here ((it's way too long to type out)) and let me just tell you...homemade graham cracker crust is SO easy and SO worth it. I used cinnamon sugar graham crackers and holy moly.  The remainder of the recipe is straight forward, but a little complicated and time consuming, but is definitely worth the extra effort. This pie turned out so sweet, creamy, tangy, and tasty I can't even stand it. I left for work right after I finished this pie and received a text message from Chase after my shift saying

"That pie is amazing."

Boom. 

Here is a photo compilation ((fancy wording for no reason)) of the pie in three steps. Just the filling & crust, with the topping added, and then the meringue. I tried to add strawberry puree to the "filling" to make it pink rather than muted yellow, but as you can see....it didn't work. 

Chase was napping, so I had to rely on my iphone to get some self portraits with the pie. Also, all of the other photos were taken with my iphone. I know...I'm so lazy.

I've seen these summer lists around the blogosphere lately and I thought they were such a fun idea. I'm a list maker...they rarely get all crossed off and thrown away, but I'm a list maker nonetheless.  Besides,  these are fun things to cross off the list!

 I want my life to be more intentional. I want my moments to be more enjoyed and savored. I want to live it up and have fun and enjoy the little things this summer. Ergo...the summer list.

Some other items that there wasn't room for on my chalkboard:

outdoor concerts

plant an herb garden

time at the pool

continue to commute via bike even when the temps rise

find/read more books that were as good as "the help"

cruise around town on my townie more often

Speaking of love, my snapshot this week is of my manly, wonderful, and handsome husband. I remember this day very vividly as a day that was pretty much near perfect. We were up at the cabin in Almont, I was sitting outside listening to hummingbirds and the river's rush, while cutting out fabric for my quilt. He was down by the river fishing.  He came up with this winner of a fishy fish and Chase was so cute I couldn't even stand it, so I had to snap a picture! We cooked him (the fish) up and had him for dinner. GOSH, I love summer!
