((outfit schmoutfit)) nevermind the bull-dozer

I shopped at Deja Vu when I visited Seaside last year with my in-laws and was immediately in my happy place. They were all about on-trend and FUN dresses, accessories, and y'all? I still have photos on my phone from their cute displays. Everything was adorable & inspiring.  ANYWHO, when I found out about their online store I knew it would be a partnership made in heaven. I got this nautical-esque number and have worn it often this summer. I love how it perfectly transitions into the Fall. Ah, Fall. Can't wait!

Bandeau: Francesca's
Navy Flats: Target

((oh...and nevermind the bulldozer in the back of these photos. it's not really there.))

I've been thinking a lot lately about change. Change can be good (seasons, marriage, new children) and change can be difficult (divorce, death), but either way...a lot of times it's just hard, isn't it?

It's tough to adjust and it's tough when consistency and everything you know simply flies out the window.

I've realized that my attitude towards change is usually negative. It's typically wrapped around fear and doubt and frustration and just a sense of insecurity...and if I'm super honest with myself I'd say that I hate that. If I dig even deeper into my soul, I know that God is yearning for me to stop fearing change and stop doubting His goodness in the midst of it.

I'm reminded of these truths:

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. ((Deuteronomy 31:6))

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. ((James 1:17))

Even if changes in your life are going on that are GOOD and EXCITING and WELL ACCEPTED, it can still be a bit stressful and tiring. When changes in our lives our HARD and BRUTAL and are absolutely ROCKING our foundation, it's even more-so.

But we can rest in the fact that our God never changes and that's one aspect of my life that I can always rely on. He's the same. He'll never change.  His never-ending grace, His everlasting love, and His abiding goodness, His boundless mercy and His endless sovereignty will NEVER fail.

There's nothing to fear. Not even the most difficult of circumstances or changes. Be strong and courageous.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ((Hebrews 13:8))

That, my friends, is GOOD news.

((outfit schmoutfit)) it was all yellow

Dr. Pepper in hand. Addict. Typical.

top: anthropologie (by splendid. SO comfy!)
shorts: fossil
dr. pepper: vending machine
sandals: target

I'm aware this outfit isn't too exciting & that the wall is stealing the show. It's also pretty much the same exact outfit as this one. This iphone outfit photoshoot was spontaneous because my necklace matched a wall. Don't act like you wouldn't have done the same thing. ((giggle))

excuse the quiet

I look angry in this photo, but I'm not. Just pondering.

Lots of changes are happening over here in Oh, Sweet Joy! land. All good things, all exciting things...but it's taking a bit for me to ponder them all and wrap my head around everything that's going on. Change and I aren't always bff's. In the meantime, please forgive me if posting is a bit scarce over the next couple of weeks.

I have a few posts scheduled and sponsor posts won't halt...but as for the rest? I just need a teensy break from the computer as I tie up some loose ends, get ready for Firefly, plan a Denver/Boulder area blogger meet-up and try and figure out life.

Also? God is good.

((i scream, you scream series)) coffee ice cream recipe

Coffee + Ice Cream = Dream Come True

Am I right or am I right?

Today's recipe is creamy, delicious, and has tons of options. You can leave as is. You can make it decaf. Try mixing in chocolate shavings, chocolate covered espresso beans, or chocolate chips or heck...chocolate sprinkles!

What you'll need:
1.5 cups of whole milk
1.5 cups of WHOLE coffee beans ((decaf is a-ok!))
pinch of salt
3/4 cup of sugar
1.5 cups of heavy cream
5-6 large egg yolks
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon instant coffee
((you can skip this, or add the same amount of some super finely ground coffee))

1. Heat milk, sugar, coffee beans, salt,  and 1/2 a cup of the cream into a saucepan and cook over medium heat until it's warm and starting to steam. Don't let it boil!
Let the mixture be for a while at room temperature for half an hour to an hour. This allows the coffee bean flavor to infuse the "custard."

2. Pour the remaining cup of cream into a bowl & set aside.

3. Reheat the milk & coffee mixture, on medium heat, until ((again!)) hot & steamy, but not boiling. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks together. Pour the heated milk & coffee mixture into the egg yolks. Whisk constantly during this step...otherwise you might get scrambled eggs ;) Scrape this mixture BACK into the saucepan.

4. Stirring the mixture over medium heat, cook until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.  Use a wooden spoon or spatula to stir & scrape the bottom of the saucepan as you go. Cooking it until it's thick can take up to 10 minutes so be patient :)

5. Strain the mixture and stir it into the cream you set aside in step two. The more you press the coffee beans, the more intense of a coffee flavor you'll get. Discard the beans and then mix in the vanilla, along with the instant coffee. Stir until it cools a bit.

6. Chill your mixture overnight or for several hours in the refrigerator. When I'm in a rush, I will switch it back and forth between the freezer and 'fridge so it takes less time ;) Once it's cool you can pour it in your frozen kitchenaid ice cream attachment or whatever your ice cream maker is.

((handmade monday)) three DIY statement necklaces!

Statement necklaces are my favorite accessory of the moment. I love how they can instantly transform a plain or solid top into something fabulous. Today, I'll show you how to make three necklace styles from the simplest of materials!

What you'll need:
an old t-shirt or 1/4 yard of jersey knit fabric
wooden beads (three sizes)
(optional) paint and/or spraypaint
needle with a thick "eye"

1. Cut your coral t-shirt or jersey knit fabric into two long strips, no more than an inch wide.
2. Spray-paint your wooden beads yellow.
3. Thread one "string" through the eye of the needle and string your beads on in the following order:
two small, two medium, three large, two medium, two small
Repeat on the other strip of fabric and once you have finished, tie a knot on each side of the beads.
4. Place the two pieces together how you want them to hang & tie the strips together just above the knots.
5. Place around your neck and tie with a bow!

1. Cut your bright aqua jersey knit into one long strip, no more than an inch wide. You can trim it down later if you'd like it to be thinner.
2. Leaving the beads natural for a bold contrast, thread your "string" through the eye of the needle and string your beads on in the following order:
two small, two medium, three large, two medium, two small
3. Tie a knot on either side of the beads so they don't move around.
4. Place around your neck and tie with a bow!

1. Cut your printed jersey knit into two long strips, no more than an inch wide.
2. Put a bit of dark brown paint into a bowl and water it down. Roll the beads around in it until they're covered and let them dry.
3. Thread one "string" through the eye of the needle and string your beads on in the following order:
one small, two medium, three large, two medium, one small
Repeat on the other strip of fabric with the following order:
two small, five medium, two small

and once you have finished, tie a knot on each side of the beads.
4. Place the "strand" with the larger beads on the bottom and give it more "slack."
5. Without tying the pieces together as we did in the first option, place around your neck and tie with a bow!

I already had the jersey knit//t-shirts, paint, and spray-paint  on hand, but this project cost about $12 for the beads and I still have beads left over to make more! Just make sure to take a coupon with you to Joann or Hobby Lobby for the beads.

Have fun!

favorite things friday: fancy tiger crafts + anna maria horner

Last week, I had the pleasure of heading down to Denver with my friend Jess to one of my favorite fabric shops, Fancy Tiger Crafts, to meet my favorite fabric designer - Anna Maria Horner!

We had a blast, got to chat it up with Anna for a little while and be some of the first to purchase some of her new line, which is STUNNING.

Here are some photos from our outing and if you are in the area, you MUST check out Fancy Tiger. SO great.

sponsor highlight + giveaway: take the cannoli

Sometimes this whole blogging world brings you people that you wish you could just hop on a plane and go hang out over a venti latte. Natalie, from Take the Cannoli, is definitely one of those gals. Beauty that radiates, a hilarious sense of humor, a passion for working with her hands, and a love for Jesus....she's definitely a package deal. All that to say, I'm really really really excited to share one of my newest sponsors with you today. If you don't know her already, I know you will by the end of this post.

Everyday is a new day (no brainer right?!) Some days are fabulous while others require extra mascara to help accentuate the only thing I have going for me because I'm rockin' my pj's all day. Though I have no idea what each day will bring I do know God is faithful and good.

Lamentations 3:22-23 says” Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are New Every Morning; great is Thy faithfulness”

I’m Nat, the girl behind Take the Cannoli. I am twenty something (for just a little longer), wifey to Micah, mama to my two sweet babes, a Southern Californian girl, and a crafter of sorts. I am a lover of Jesus, coffee, all things vintage, the beach and any sweet treat!

I also own a little shop filled mostly with hand-stitched lovelies  a.k.a embroidered hoop art, which has kind of become my therapeutic outlet. The pieces in my collection are inspired by affirmations, scriptures, hymns and any other little things that bring me joy. My hope is that these hoops will be a blessing to others as they are displayed in homes, craft stations and workspaces.

Told ya you'd love her.

Today, Nat is giving away one lucky winner this "Choose Joy" hoop art ($38 value). How appropriate, right? It's a 6" hoop that is accented with vintage trim to create bunting and sweet rosettes. If this isn't the perfect Oh, Sweet Joy! giveaway item, then I don't know what is!

You can also use the discount code SWEETNESS for 15% off all items available in the shop.

((i scream, you scream series)) ummmm....

Sunday rolled around and I had forgotten about this post. Monday, after work, we left town for a few days and ummm...

I've failed you this week.

((looks down & says with a lisp))

Let's just do this...

Grab your keys & your wallet, go to the grocery store, and pick up a half gallon of Blue Bell. Put a few scoops in a latte bowl, use one of these adorable spoons and enjoy. Save me a bite?

Now....isn't that better? Instant gratification & you don't have to clean up the kitchen when you're done. I'm a giver, y'all. I really am.
