((outfit schmoutfit)) lace & aztec print

I will always stand by the fact that a well-fitting dress in a great print will make any girl feel like a million bucks. I can't even tell you how much I'm loving this dress from Kintage and every time I've worn it, I've feel so pretty. The print and colors are spot on.  It's fitted on top, flowy on bottom, colorful, and has a touch of lace. Winning combination. They've since sold out, but there are so many great dresses available and they offer free shipping on U.S. orders! I'm looking forward to wearing this to a casual wedding in a few weeks. Also, don't hate on the bubble necklace. I will love them always and forever, even if they've had their time in the spotlight ;)

((recipe)) 100 Calorie Root Beer Float

You guys. This diet is killing me ((dramatic, much?)), but it's working and I fit into my favorite dress it's all good. Yesterday, my sweet tooth was OUT of control and when cardboard tasting almond butter on apples didn't do it for me - I got creative. It was delicious, definitely hit the spot, and the only disclaimer is that you have to drink it fast ((heh. like that's a problem)) or else the bananas "unfreeze" and it's kinda mushy. I kind of felt like a genius.

So, the question is - are you ready for a healthy option for your typical sugary Root Beer float? This nostalgic treat is sugar free, dairy free, and artificial sweetener free. Perfect for a "healthy" alternative to after school snacks.

Before you begin, freeze some bananas in the freezer peeled, and cut in halves or sliced into one inch pieces. If you have a yonanas machine ((what I used)), this will be super easy - but it will also work just as well with a food processor or blender. Alright, so once your bananas are frozen ((I always keep some on hand)), blend in your choice of kitchen appliance. Then, flatten into a tupperware or flat bowl and put back into the freezer for half an hour, up to an hour.

Then, all you have to do is:
1. Scoop the "ice cream" into your glass
2. Pour in your Zevia ginger root beer soda ((ZERO CALORIES!))
3. Put in a cute straw ((I know you saw that coming))

The only calories are that of the banana(s). I used 1.5 bananas and it was the perfect amount. Mmmm I can't wait until snack time so I can make round two of this yummy treat.

tethered crate round two!

I wrote a bit about the Tethered Crate here and am super excited to tell y'all about my most recent "box." For $19.95 you can get your monthly subscription and get way more than that in value of handmade items. These aren't your typical covered button bobby pins or rosette headbands ((not that there is anything wrong with those...maybe just "have had their day")). These are gorgeous handmade items that are on trend, beautifully made, and the best quality. Think frame-able graphic art prints and impeccably sewn designer fabric headbands. Aaaaand you know I love a good headband :D

This is the loot I got from my most recent "crate." All beautifully packaged and perfectly branded so I could easily find more from the gals behind these items.

I'm obviously a big fan of the Tethered Crate, but more than anything I love the two gals behind this effort. Jessi & Megan are two inspiring ladies that have teamed up to create something special and unique. There are tons of subscription boxes out there, but none that entirely celebrate all things handmade and give back to good causes. They are such a blessing to the handmade community - both in their own individual businesses and in what they do with the Tethered Crate.

Wanna be a part? Here are two ways you can do that:

Sign up, y'all! This will be your favorite subscription box - I just know it :)

And I know that a lot of my readers are ladies with their own handmade business that want to find ways to get their name out there. If you fit that bill, then apply to be a contributor! It will be worth it, I have no doubt.

favorite things friday: i found you miss new bootie

Regarding the title: Sorry, I had to. I finally got my first pair of booties last Fall and wore the HECK out of them, even while pregnant. This year, I'm wanting less of a staple and more of a fun pair. Here are a few that I've rounded up - some quirky, all perfect ((& most under $100!))

1. I've heard nothing but great things about these Toms Desert Booties. Comfy, casual and all kinds of awesome. They also come in taupe and camel.
2. Super quirky and out of the ordinary. These Lucky Brand booties will surely make a statement. They also are available in a neutral option.
3. A little prep and a whole lot of fab, these Tracy Reese oxford booties are uh-mazing.

4. Cowgirl and rock star all in one - these Blowfish booties are vegan friendly and have the perfect heel height.
5. As if this Dolce Vita bootie could get any more perfect, they added a gold toe to it to make me weak at the knees. Buy these at RiffRaff HEREand use the code "ohsweetjoy" for 10% off.
6. The tall, chunky heel on these Jeffrey Campbells may not be practical for this mama with a carseat in tow, but I'd love to live vicariously through you and your impeccable shoe choice. That lusciously soft suede is just beckoning us.

Have you found the perfect pair of booties for the Fall? I'd love to see them! Now excuse me, I have a decision to make and a pair of shoes to buy. :D

see you in September?

Two things that I'm continually blessed by:
1. My readers

I love the support and encouragement I see in both "communities." I've been able to share content with you guys for 4 years and I've been able to teach classes and get to know gals  through the Influence Network for the past few months. I'd be so giddy to see these two worlds collide in a bigger way at the end of September. Here's the deal. I want this space to point to something ((read: Someone)) bigger than myself and I'd be honored to sit beside you and learn how to do that more seamlessly and in a real way.

With that said, who's going to join me at The Influence Conference next month?

If you haven't already bought your ticket, I'd simply encourage you to pray about doing so. It's such a commitment - I know. It's a commitment and investment and sacrifice of your time, financials, and ego. To be humble enough to want to learn and seek the Lord's will for your blog/online shop is hard. To save money and spend it on a weekend for yourself and for the future of your online space is tough. To take time away from your family and weekend responsibilities to sit in a room of women and ask questions, network, and deepen friendships takes courage. Why should you choose Influence as your conference?

Let's do it together. Can't wait to meet you ((neither can baby Knox)). Can't wait to sit and giggle and wear lipstick and shop the Sashes Market and probably eat lots of oreos. ;)

If you have bought your ticket - YAY! Also, if you get a chance, read this great post by Ashley in how to prepare your heart for this sweet weekend. Such a good heart redirect in the hustle and bustle of packing lists, outfit planning, travel arrangements, and such.

((outfit schmoutfit)) aztec skirt + new ombre hair

Skirts are the most underrated items in my closet. I have some great ones, but always forget about them. I forget about how great they are, especially for summer days! The print on this one tends to steal the show ((in the best of ways)), so it's easy to pair a simple tee or chambray button down with it and walk out the door. I must get more wear out of my skirts!

Also - I dyed my hair for the first time last week. My friend did some ombre action on the ends of my color-virgin hair and I loooove it! It turned out the exact caramel color I wanted.

Necklace - Francesca's ((similar here))

Hope y'all have a great Tuesday :)

Green Salad with Chicken & Pink Grapefruit ((fresh & fast on-the-go recipe from cooking light))

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cooking Light, Sunset, and Real Simple magazines, but all my opinions are my own.

I have a boatload of cookbooks, but for some reason, most of my meal planning and recipe inspiration comes from magazines. There's just something so satisfying about picking up a magazine in the grocery store aisle, flipping through the pages when you get home, finding a recipe that makes your mouth water, tearing out a page, posting it on the fridge, shopping for ingredients and making the meal that week. More than anything, I love being enticed by the photos of the meals, which not all cookbooks offer.

My go-to meal planning magazine companions since college have been Cooking Light and Real Simple. Since moving to Colorado, Sunset mag is another favorite. They're always full of attainable recipes that are flavorful and usually pretty darn healthy. We always have a lot going on, so fast and fresh are the two things that are most important in my meal planning. Not to mention, Chase and I are on week two of a 21 day challenge of eating nothing that contains dairy, gluten, soy, sugar, artificial sweeteners, or alcohol. Needless to say, salads are getting a bit monotonous and I've been on the hunt for a fresh & new one to make for us.

This recipe was inspired by a simple, on the go recipe in Cooking Light magazine. Brown bag lunches don't have to be boring. I love that I can have everything prepped before, throw it in a tupperware, onto a plate, or in a mason jar ((using the BNTO for Cuppow!)) and eat it on the go. Although the dressing does have a tiiiiny bit of sugar in it, I chose to "look the other way" and go for it anyways. Honey would be yummy too. The dressing is so delicious - definitely my favorite part!

I headed to my local Safeway to pick up the ingredients for this delicious salad and all the flavors worked together perfectly. The tangy grapefruit paired perfectly with the salty pistachios, the spiciness of the fennel, and the savory chicken. Ready for the recipe? The following makes two salads, so double it if you're making it for more!

5 handfuls of mixed greens ((I used baby red&green romaine and spinach))
2 sliced grilled chicken breasts ((picking up a rotisserie chicken from Safeway is such a time saver))
1/4 cup shaved fennel
1/4 cup salted and shelled pistachios
1 ruby red grapefruit
1/6 - 1/3 cup of olive oil
1 teaspoon of sugar
juice of half of your grapefruit
dash of salt
dash of pepper

1. Cook & slice chicken, shave fennel, and cut grapefruit into half or quarter moons ((making sure to remove all of the membrane or..."white stuff")). Rinse greens and shell pistachios if needed.
2. Prepare salad dressing by pouring olive oil and juice from 1/2 a grapefruit into a small measuring cup or mixing bowl then whisk in salt and pepper. Set aside.
3. Place mixed greens in bowl or on serving plate. Top with chicken, pistachios, grapefruit, fennel.
4. Drizzle with dressing and enjoy!

1. Pack your dressing separately and toss right before you eat to prevent a soggy salad. BNTO for cuppow! is a perfect for this.
2. If you have any of the Safeway/Tom Thumb/etc grocery store chains near you, you can pick up this month's Real Simple, Cooking Light, and Sunset magazines and get $1 using the coupon available on Safeway’s just for U portal. ((expires August 30th))

What's your favorite on-the-go lunch to make?

what i've been working on ((shop update))

I've been scheming some new collections and honing in on some Fall/Autumn products. Kim is my name and fabric shopping is my game, y'all. A lot of these "collections" are still in the works and will be debuted at the Influence Conference at the end of September ((or before then!)).

Here's a little behind the scenes of some mood-boards and swatch sets I've put together. This first one I'm most excited about because Oana Befort and I have teamed up to give y'all my favorite headbands yet.

Black and white is on my radar loud & clear for the last quarter of 2013. So classic and perfect for finishing off that autumn hued outfit you'll be wearing. Any of these would be perfect with skinny jeans, riding boots, a white tee, and a nutmeg or burgundy sweater.

Speaking of nutmeg & burgundy, I can't leave out my Autumn collection! This was an accidental one, as these fabrics just "spoke to me" and they were so soft, high quality and luscious that I just had to offer them to y'all. You're welcome ;)

And finally, the "wraps" are coming, I promise! I'm still perfecting the "finishing" of them and haven't found a perfect hem that I'm crazy about. I also want to put together a video series of all the ways to tie them to go along with the launch.

Alright, folks! That's what my brain has been working on as of late. It never rests, I'm tellin' ya. Which ones are you going to be keeping your eyes out for?
