excuse the quiet

The past few days have been all sorts of stressful. We didn't have much time (September is BA-NANAS for us), but we decided to go to the cabin for a day and a half to spend some time with the in-laws. Chase's sister and her husband were going to be there and Knox hadn't gotten to "meet" them yet. It's only 4 hours away and we never really turn down an opportunity to head that way. About two hours into our drive, we got caught behind a logging truck and my car was having trouble shifting as we went uphill over a pass. Finally, the truck moved over and as we accelerated, my jeep started dinging and overheating. Long story, short - we had to abandon my car in Buena Vista and rent a jeep from a off-roading jeep rental place just to get to the cabin. Perfect timing with labor day, no one could look at the car until yesterday morning. Chase was supposed to be at Seminary yesterday afternoon for class that he had to miss.

What was thought to be a small thermostat issue, a $70 fix..turned out to be a potentially blown head gasket ((whatever the heck that means)), a $2,500 fix. My car is worth $5,000 at best and I don't think it's surprising to say that we don't have $2,500 to throw into my dumb car.  We could take a hell of a vacation for $2,500. I can't tell you how badly I just wanted to beat the trash out of the car and sell it for parts. We made it back to Boulder without my car ((don't want to dive into that chaos)) and we will try and get it towed to Boulder sometime soon. We are supposed to leave for a wedding tomorrow...a 12 hour drive to Fayetteville. Thankfully, we have another vehicle, Chase's truck. This is just not how I envisioned a quick trip to the cabin to look.

I keep telling myself that no one is injured, no one has passed away, Knox is healthy, I have an amazing husband, God is good, and it's just a car. It's still just a mess. I just felt like you should know that it may be quiet around here for a few days. I can assure you that I don't need your sympathy..I am completely aware that there are people hurting way more with bigger issues than a falling apart 2004 Jeep Liberty. I just needed to process it a bit, I suppose.

Gasp.  A blog post without a photo.

love.

  1. It IS just a car.. but still, it's a pain in the butt. So, you've got every right to be bothered by it. Car troubles suck, no other way to put it. We rely so much on our vehicles, so when we "lose" one it can be a nightmare. Hope that you get everything resolved quickly. And, I hope that your 12hr drive is FAR less eventful and you're able to enjoy your time!

  2. oh girl car troubles are the WORST! Seriously. And while we may be trying to say it's just a car, it's still annoying, it's still a big deal, it's still a financial burden and it's still something that makes things harder and it's ok to be upset about it.

Also, I am kind of mad at your Jeep for crapping out on you-- my entire family (no joke) drives jeeps-- our 1988 jeep wagoneer (gold & wood-paneled, woo!) is still a well-working beast and my baby brother drives it daily.

    1. i've had nothing but headaches with the most random parts of my car. i've had to replace windows 4 times (they insist on coming loose and slamming into the car door. cool.) and i'm ready to call it quits and get a mom car. haha

  3. Well, phooey! I love your outlook it! I'm the same way...it stinks, but it's not the end of the world. Everyone has problems and stresses...this just happens to be yours! ;) I'm sure if there was a recall on your vehicle, you'd know about it. However, just to cover all bases, I'm attaching the list for your year/make/model (I think)...;) http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2004/jeep/liberty/recalls/

  4. Car trouble can really have a big impact on your life!! We recently got stranded on a road trip with a blown transmission and had to ride a train home and leave the car there! It's understandable certainly if you don't have time for the internet at the moment!

  5. Ugh, and just when you want to get AWAY! Sorry to hear-- I had a car with a blown head gasket once upon a time when I was going to school out of state. There really is no good time for car trouble. Hoping things look up from here!

  6. I feel your pain lady. My husband was in a car accident over a week ago with both kids in the car. Thankfully no one was injured and it wasn't his fault but the car is in pretty bad shape. I was so worried they were going to total it and the check we'd get for it wouldn't be close to what we'd need to buy a new car. That car is our only car and it's worth a zillion dollars to me! It's going to be at LEAST 3 weeks before it's repaired (not totaled, yay!). And like I said, ONLY car. Thankfully we have family lending us their cars, but I have a feeling that won't last for 3 weeks.

But like you said, everyone is safe and healthy so focus on the good and know that God will provide what you need. Trust in Him!

  7. Guh–I'm so sorry, and can't imagine how frustrating this must be. It's only a car, but it's still stressful and I wish there was an easy fix!

  8. SO irritating! I am sorry! I just discovered my car is burning oil. UGH. Don't really want a car payment so I guess I'll just be buying a heck of a lot of oil over the next year or so! Cheers to cars....not. ;)

  9. No need to apologize...car issues can be a big deal and make life tough, especially when they upset plans and you have a baby to take care of. Hope you can get it all figured out soon so you can focus on better things. :)

  10. pretty much just happened to us! On our way back to College Station with a puppy and baby in tow and ended up in West, TX with one hotel (that didn't take dogs...). I feel you! It is definitely stressful :) But, hope that it all irons out soon!

  11. I say kick and scream all you want. Sure there are bigger problems in this world, but that doesn't necessarily take away from our own frustrations. Car trouble especially costly car trouble can be so annoying. Hope it all works out as smoothly as possible.

  12. My family always says, "If it can be fixed with money it's only an inconvenience. If it can't be fixed with money then you have a problem." You're in God's hands and everything will turn out better and maybe even different than you expected. "Where God guides, God provides"

  14. WOW! You can't know how much I needed this post. We have a financial issue going on over here and I have been trying to go on with life and not let it get me down. But, it has been hard. It is always nice to know other people know how you feel.
