my morning routine

I've never been a morning person, but motherhood is slowly turning me into one. I still love to sleep in, but the early wake up call from baby Knox has made me crave a morning routine. I secretly love opening the blinds in the morning and looking out on the sunrise. Finding beauty in the new mercies that I'm granted, in the new day that I get to live, in the landscape and sunrise that surrounds me...it's a beautiful thing.

I nurse Knox around 7-8 am, depending on what time he wakes up, while reading my She Reads Truth plan. As much as I'd love to wake up earlier and journal before He wakes up and actually read from the Bible, rather than a Bible app - it's just where I'm at right now and I'll take that daily bread however I can get it.

I love to get dressed right after Knox gets his breakfast, but that rarely happens. When it does, I feel I can accomplish so much more. I put Knox down to play while I make coffee and usually throw some clothes on while it's brewing. I try to do something with my bed-head.

If Knox eats before 8, he usually is ready to go back down for a morning nap so I can watch Kelly & Michael and sip my coffee. I love that part of my morning..it gets super quiet and still and then I turn on the tv with the volume super low. I answer some emails and do some random blog work during the commercial breaks...also planning my day in to-do list form.

Basically, my mornings are spent trying to figure out how to be a mom, how to be a disciple of Jesus, how to run a business + a household, and how to drink my cup of coffee without having to reheat it three times.

Before I know it, it's 11 am and Knox is ready to eat again and then..bam. It's lunch time and the afternoon is ready to be taken on.

My favorite mug to sip from is this latte mug from NS Pottery. It's HUGE, so I'm able to fill 'er up and sip away...and who doesn't love a little humor in their day? This spoon from JessicaNDesigns makes me giggle every time I stir my creamer into my coffee. Too Legit to Quit ((Hey Heyyyyyyy!)). I also can't wait to hug these girls at Influence SO soon!

What's your favorite moment in your morning routine?

love.

  7. I am still trying to find my morning routine with my little one, it would probably help if i didn't do the 4AM nurse in bed but 4AM is not morning.

Do you use YouVersion for the She Reads Truth plan?

  8. i really really really want to be a morning person. i'm actually going to try and get up earlier next week so i can adapt to the diff. time zone at influence!

my morning routine is: roll out of bed at 6:30, walk the dog, do something with the hair, run out the door and do makeup and then my She Reads Truth devotional on the bus downtown. eat breakfast at my work desk (oatmeal & coffee) Not glamorous or calm. I am praying someday I'll have leisure in my day.

  9. I have a four month old who usually wakes up an hour or so before we really have to get up for the day. When he lets me I love scooping him out of his crib and cuddling in the big bed in his room. Usually he just smiles and will sometimes fall back to sleep so we can snooze a little longer. It's the best. Well, that and the extra sleep. :)

  10. Such a sweet routine. I hate mornings and try to drag myself out of bed early (5:45) to have breakfast with the hubs before he leaves. Then I'm out the door before I know it!

  11. Mornings with baby are so sweet! I've always been a morning person and I'm happy our little one is turning out to love mornings too (though it's a bummer when she wants to start the day at 5:30am). I've found I need a smallish mug, so the coffee doesn't get cold because I rarely finish it all at once :) and now I understand why my mom's coffee mug was so often in the microwave!

  12. I'm still not a morning person and I had my son almost a year ago! Still, my morning sessions consist of nursing, making us breakfast while he plays, feeding my son and I, maybe a quick trip or walk to the park and then he is down for a nap around 10am.

Oh but I remember the days when the waketime is less than 2hours. Although its super constricting in terms of what you can get done, it's nice to know that your baby can only hang for so long.
