((we will wait)) advent devotional

One of my dear sponsors, Heather, has an advent devotional out that I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you should purchase and go through with your family this year ((it's only $2.99!)) - it will be such a special time for your loved ones. . She's a gem and I know she put a lot into this e-book devotional. Here's a bit from her! Make sure to visit her at her blog here - you will be blessed by reading along.

Hey, I'm Heather and I'm so excited to be sharing a little bit about myself with you!

First of all, a question: Do you celebrate Advent? For as long as I can remember my family has celebrated the season of Advent together. On December 1st my mom hung the handmade felt Christmas tree and we tucked the sequin and bead-adorned ornaments into each of the twenty four pockets below the tree. Each day of the month my brother and I took turns removing one of the detailed ornaments and placing it on the tree. On Sunday evenings we ate at the dining room table, a candle-laden wreath in the center. After the meal we read from an Advent devotional and lit a candle. These are some of my sweetest family memories.

But what exactly is Advent? The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio which simply means “to come” and refers to the coming of Christ. The season of Advent is a celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas, and the coming of Christ in our lives each day. It is a season of expectation, preparation and celebration of Christ’s birth.

People celebrate Advent in different ways. Some celebrate all 24 days before Christmas, beginning on the first Sunday of the month. When I was a child we often had chocolate Advent calendars that we opened on each day of December. Others only celebrate on the four Sunday’s before Christmas, often by lighting a candle on an Advent wreath.

The Advent wreath is a custom which originated among German Lutherans. It consists of four candles (three purple and one pink or blue) arranged in a circle with evergreen boughs, and often a fifth, white candle in the center. The Advent wreath corresponds to the four Sundays of Advent. The purple candles represent repentance, the pink candle reminds us of the hope coming, and the white candle, represents Christ. The light of the candles signifies the light of Christ, who comes into the world at Christmas.

For me, Advent is all about taking a moment each day in December to focus my heart and mind on Jesus. I know this is something I should be doing every day (and I try) but it’s even more important during this season because its so easy to get caught up in the craziness – the shopping and baking and decorating – and forget about about our Savior.

Now that I have my own little family, the idea of creating Christmas traditions excites me, so much that I’ve been inspired to create a simple and straightforward Advent devotional for my family and yours! My hope is that We Will Wait will help focus our hearts on Jesus during a time that is often about everything else but Him. I hope together we can carve out a few minutes in our day to light a candle, read a few verses, and reflect on the hope, peace, joy and love of the Christmas season.

What are your favorite Advent traditions?

Give Soma this Holiday Season

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Soma, but all my opinions are my own.

Chase and I honeymooned in New Zealand and absolutely fell in love with that country. One of my favorite things ((I'm all about details)) was that for every meal, there was a pretty bottle of water on the table. Ever since then, when entertaining guests or simply eating dinner at the table, we have put a glass bottle instead of just filling up our glasses at the refrigerator. It looks more presentable and it allows me to drink more water ((hello, altitude. you make me thirsty)). However, getting water from our ginormous water filter in the 'fridge into the cute little bottle requires a funnel or water all over our floor and/or counter.

Enter, Soma.

Now I can filter my water, chill it, and bring it straight to the table without pouring it into a tiny spout on the glass bottle from our ginormous water filter. Thanks to Soma - our water filter is now a part of our tablescape - how fun is that? It is gorgeous, modern, and fits in perfectly with our table without taking up too much space.

The Soma water filter has been gaining quite a bit of traction and is such a great gift option, they've even been featured in social media/ instagrams from celebrities like Giuliana Rancic. They are truly the perfect gift this Holiday season, especially for someone you love that enjoys hosting/hostessing parties.

Here are a few perks and benefits of Soma:
-When you purchase a Soma for $49, you are automatically enrolled into their fresh filter program, which sends replacement filters every two months. For less than twenty five cents a day, you will never have to go to the store to buy a new filter - shipping is always free!
-The filters are 100% biodegradable
-Every filter you purchase provides clean water for someone in need through Soma's partners at charity:water
-It's so stylish and it's glass, not plastic.
-No more of those black specks in your water class from your decomposing filter. You know what I'm talking about.

I mean, how can you go wrong? Everyone drinks water, right?

I loved how the filter looked on our table during a meal recently. I infused it with mint for a fresh and subtle spin on plain water - which worked well with our Autumnal meal of roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, and a pumpkin pie. Sometimes, we need to break our rhythm of eating quick meals in front of the tv or on the floor as we play with Knox. Sitting at the table is so relaxing to me. Creating a place setting makes dinner less routine and more inviting.

You can purchase your Soma Filter here and follow along via social media. Their pinterest account also has so many great infusing recipes and decor ideas!

outfit schmoutfit ((who took my security blankets?))

I think it's ironic that I took two black dresses to the consignment store and received this tee in the mail in the same week. Evidence that a graphic tee is more my style and comfort zone these days ;) Speaking of comfort zones - I strayed from two of them in this look. No glasses and no headband. It's a Thanksgiving miracle. Now gimme back my security blankets.

tee - ℅ agate mermaid
leather jacket - Michael Kors
((from nordstrom rack - also found here and this one has a hood!))
leopard flats - target
scarf - anthropologie ((several seasons ago))
skinnies - paige denim
bracelet - adie's lovelies
druzy earrings - salty design co

Chase got me this jacket for Christmas last year. I was preggo and could barely fit it in, so now it seems new again and I'm obsessed. Can you blame a girl?

on being thankful

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

Being thankful isn't usually something that is difficult to me. I can be a cynic, but I am generally a positive person. Growing up, I was raised to say "please" and "thank you," so from an early age I knew how to be grateful and show that. A thank you note, a hug, saying a simple "thanks" is all it takes and goes a long way.

Last week I was fighting discontentment constantly, it seemed. Actually, I wasn't fighting it - it was crippling me and I threw quite a few pity parties. I would watch HGTV and be frustrated with God that we can't afford a home. I would check instagram to see friends skiing and be jealous - and I don't even really like skiing. I would check my stats to update a potential sponsor and be frustrated that my blog hasn't seen much growth, pageview-wise, the past few months. I woke up with mastitis and an incredibly cranky baby with a cold. I had a clumsy moment and bumped an entire container of baby food green beans onto the freshly vacuumed carpet - I was angry, all of a sudden, that we didn't have hardwood floors. Sales weren't as high as I would have liked them to be.

Circumstances weren't ideal, but I had to make a decision last week to be thankful. I don't like the whole, "things could be worse" mentality..instead I'd like to just count my blessings and make it a habit of doing it more often.

Instead of being embarrassed that we don't have a house with lots of room or even enough matching chairs to seat everyone - I'm just thankful that my family is coming from Texas and I get to spend the holiday eating delicious food with people I love.

Instead of being bummed that my sales were lower than anticipated, that I didn't meet my sales goals, or  that my pageviews have gone down, I'm just thankful that my "job" allows me to stay home with Knox and that the Lord has blessed me with a successful business.

Instead of being exasperated that Knox was sick, I'm just thankful it was simply a cold and that he wanted to cuddle more than normal.

Instead of letting the fact that we had an argument before date night ruin the evening, I'm just thankful that I have a husband who loves me, who still brings me flowers, and who will work through the junk with me.

Instead of being bummed that we may never own a home or ever have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms  plus a studio while we are in Boulder, I'm just thankful that we are listening to the Lord and being obedient in His call for us to be a part of The Well.

Instead of beating myself up for being discontent in the first place, I'm just thankful for a God with a scandalous amount of grace who is teaching me to have grace with myself.

I'm just thankful.

Luke 16:10 has been on my heart since early September. "One who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much."

If I am not faithful to be thankful and generous in the little things, the little moments, the little budgets... then how will I learn to be faithful if/when the Lord decides to bless us with "much?" The reality is that He has blessed me with much. It's not as "much" financially per se, but when I consider our overall health, the beautiful place in which we live, the amount of love in our home, the gift of salvation, and the fact that we've never had to go without a meal -- He has definitely blessed us with much.

I'll choose to be incredibly thankful for that.

((shop update)) wire headbands!

The new wire headbands are now available in the shop!

They're seriously so versatile and come with a ton of fabrics options - sixteen to be exact.  One of those is one of the vintage fabrics I sold in the original Fayette headband - "Memaw's Curtain." They make the perfect stocking stuffer and you will LOVE them! Remember that you can get free shipping any time you order three or more headbands with the code FREESHIP3. Otherwise, there may be a 10% off discount code to the shop in the gift guide from last week. ((Wink))

At the moment, they are READY to ship but there are only a limited quantity in each fabric option ((I'm not being dramatic - there are less than 10)). If you see you one you love, snatch it up!

I'll leave you with a few of my favorite ways to style them:
-twist two together for a fun layered look
-tie it around your top knot and make it into a bow for a super feminine/retro hairstyle
-roll into a rosette or twist and "crunch" into a messier looking knot
-tie around head like a normal headband
-bunny ears
-twist in a half circle and tuck ends into opposite side for a turban

sponsor highlight + giveaway ((featuring suzie studios))

One of my dear friends that I had the pleasure of finally meeting and hugging in person at Influence has had a shop that I've featured here before. She relaunched recently with goods for little gals made with her gorgeous fabric designs that are fresh, bohemian, and so feminine. She also has a stationery shop that I have a few cards from…I just can't make myself use them because they're so dang pretty! Jessi is such a genuine and sweet soul. I'm honored to call her friend and can't wait to watch her shop grow.

A word from Jessi:

just poppin' in for a few things

I feel like I'm still recovering from the goodness and chaos of last week. With the gift guide, launching the holiday line, and just everyday chaos of being a mom/wife/business owner - I kind of feel like I'm in a daze. It's been quiet this week, so apologies for that. I did want to pop in and let you know/remind you of a few things.

1. Don't forget to enter the amazing giveaway if you haven't already. You seriously don't want to miss your chance at this.
2. I'm working on a sample sale for some reduced prices on a  few headbands that were used for photoshoots, headbands that we didn't go through with using because the fabrics weren't cohesive with a collection, and miscellaneous headbands made from fabric I wanted to remove from my stash. Here's where you come in - would you rather buy directly from my shop or have me do an instagram sample sale?
3. The wire headbands will be launched by the end of this week! I love how they turned out and I'm excited to offer this after so many beloved customers requested them over the years. There is a sneak peek in the shop if you want to take a look at the ((16!)) fabrics and pick which one(s) you want :)
4. Save the Date locals! I'm hosting a holiday event at Madewell on December 3rd. Please let me know if you'd like to be on the invite list and I'll send it along! We'll be crafting, sipping and eating holiday treats, and I'll be sharing my go-to Holiday looks.
5. The Gift Guide is wrapped up, but there are still amazing discount codes valid! Most of them are OHSWEETJOY, which will get you miscellaneous discounts across the board - including 10% off in my shop! There are still a few headbands left in the holiday collection and once they're gone, that's it.
Thankful for y'all. You're the best.
