a little update

Just wanted to pop in and let y'all in on why it's been so quiet around Oh, Sweet Joy! lately. First, we bought and moved into our first house. It's maroon and perfect for a family of Aggies :)

Shortly after we moved in, I started having some medical concerns and some sad things happened in the course of the next few days. Oh, Sweet Joy! will continue to be quiet and a little slow to crank out new products + ship orders while we take time to process, grieve a little, and seek the Lord through a really difficult time for us.

If you have placed an order that you have not yet received, my amazing mom is going to help me get those out today. We apologize for the delay, but I do know that I truly have the best customers with the most understanding. We ask that if you've sent an email and are waiting for a response, that you continue to wait or maybe just resend it in a couple of weeks as life tries to get back to normal. Thanks in advance for your grace, patience and understanding that giveaway posts, Instagram product features and collaborations just simply can't be a priority right now.

I know there are a lack of details here, I can assure you I'm not trying to be cryptic. All of my life is so public and this is a matter we would like to keep private until we have had time to process, maybe even longer. I simply ask that instead of asking questions, that you just pray for comfort and peace.

I don't know a lot about why tragic things happen. But a few things I've found to be true and so so comforting are:
1. His ways are not my ways and His thoughts are not my thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8)
2. The Lord gives and The Lord takes away. His name is always to be praised in the midst of both. (Job 1:21)
3. The gospel is all I have and it's truly enough.
4. He is good. Always. -- But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
5. (thanks for this gem, Lauren) So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy. John 16:22

Thank you for your support. See you soon.

This & That Tote

I carried my ampersand tote the other evening and realized I never photographed them and put them in the shop! I really love how versatile these totes are. I throw all of Knox's stuff in there and then put in my purse on top of that. It's sturdy, yet lightweight and I carry this or our "eat more ice cream" tote every day! Priced at only $12, you will definitely get your money's worth out of this great tote.

What are you waiting for? Get yours here. As always, thanks for your support of Oh, Sweet Joy! Oh, and if you missed it...our fun koozies are now available too!

outfit schmoutfit ((orange & mint maxi))

necklace - similar here  and here
((get 10% off with the code ohsweetjoy))
earrings - madewell ((similar here and here))

Can we all just give a round of applause to the ease of maxi dresses this time of year? I mean, especially if they have a print and need minimal accessorizing...they're just so easy and effortless. They're definitely the MVP's of my wardrobe right now...especially this tribal print one from Riffraff. This color combo always seems so fresh and unexpected to me.  The colors scream "HOORAY SPRING AND SUMMER!" Or maybe that's just me really excited that snow is two seasons away.

Oh and Happy Cinco de Mayo! We will be having our third annual fiesta a bit belated as a housewarming party in June. That's right, we are buying a house! ((which means it may be a bit quiet around here while we pack up and move))

((recipe)) Green Pina Colada Smoothie

It's been shockingly frigid here this week - the thermometer keeps saying 50-60ยบ but that wind! OH MY GOSH THE WIND. The sunny skies and green trees are misleading, to say the least. With that said, I've been wishing for warmer weather and making smoothies every morning instead of coffee the past few weeks. Yesterday I thought, "mmmmm. A pina colada sounds awesome." So I rounded up some ingredients and made two different versions yesterday and today. It really just depends on your preferences and what you have on hand.

((makes two servings))

half a cup of frozen spinach or a full cup of fresh spinach
1 banana, sliced
1 cup or 8 oz of frozen or canned or fresh pineapple *
3 oz or desired amount of coconut milk. **
Splash of water or pineapple juice, to taste
If you haven't used any frozen ingredients, add a little bit of crushed ice

Throw in a blender and serve with an umbrella straw ;)

*I used canned because I wanted the juice
**I used half of a 6 oz unsweetened can of the legit stuff you buy at asian markets and split between the milk and the fat. If you want more coconut flavor, I'm sure you can use more.
